How to Work Your Way Through the Social Structure of High School

This one goes out to all the new freshmen out there.

In middle school, you were at the top of your game. By being an 8th grader, you pretty much had the system all worked out. You were the oldest, knew which teachers were better, knew were all the class rooms were, and hopefully were on a few teachers good sides... But, as a freshman, you just landed yourself at the bottom of the social food chain.

Since jumping from the top to the lowest point possible can be overwhelming, here are some helpful tips to know where you stand.

Seniors are the top most head of the social high school pyramid. Since they have been there the longest, usually whatever they say goes. Yes, these are the people who win the class trips and cheer offs. The teachers know them and are comfortable with them. The only problem is 'Senior-Itis'. Most of the Seniors can not wait to get the heck out of there and graduate, so even though many of them do not care, they are the ones actually running the place.

Next up is the Juniors. These are the students who have been there the second longest and are counting down the days when they can be Seniors. Even though the Seniors are technically in change, it is the Juniors you want to watch out for. Juniors do not really have much power, except by being and upper class-men, but they will readily wield it when given the chance.

Following the Juniors are the Sophomores. They are not upper class-men, but the are still not Freshmen. They still have to submit to the Juniors and Seniors, but they are not labeled as "Freshmen" any longer. Therefore they are higher than you and have a much higher authority. These are usually the students who pick on the younger ones, meaning you Freshmen.

Finally, we are left with the Freshmen, or should I say "Fresh-meat". You are at the lowest form of the social structure, and the only chance of gaining power is by graduating to the next level. So the best advice I can give you is pass all your classes so you do not have to take them again. Do not do anything to invoke the wrath of anyone older and you will turn out fine... I think. ;)
